Abstract
The poplar GIS (Group of Scientific Interest) combines expertise and plant material from three French research institutes (AFOCEL, Cemagref and INRA), and is devoted to breeding and assessing clones from other European countries. Developing durable tolerance to important diseases (Marssonina brunnea, Melampsora rusts and Xanthomonas populi) is a major goal. Specific methods for clone evaluation were developed to take into account the biology and the variability of these parasites.
